Broccoli on the side

This is a side dish that never fails to amaze. Very simple and very satisfying. This dish goes really well with meat, fish and poultry. I even eat it with salad when I don’t feel like eating meat. My kids, who are a bit picky when it comes to their greens, eat this without a peep. I thinks it’s the lemony taste they like.

What you need:

  • 500 gr broccoli
  • 1 clove of garlic, crushed
  • Juice of 1 lemon (or half lemon & half lime)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika powder
  • Grated Parmesan for taste
  • Salt & pepper to season

What you do:

  1. Cut the broccoli into mid size florets
  2. Steam in a steamer for 15 -20 min (they should still have a bite to them)
  3. While it’s steaming mix the crushed garlic & spices in a mortar.
  4. Make sure you crush it all together until you get a paste consistency
  5. Add the lemon juice and mix all together

All you need to do now is to move the cooked broccoli into a nice bowl pour the mix over it & add the Parmesan to your liking
Season according to taste and mix gently before serving with your main meal OR if you’re anything like me you’ll just eat it like that as a healthy snack.

Enjoy!
